Privacy policy

Last updated: 5 November 2026

The Shiny app collects no data. Your photos, videos, files and contacts are analysed on your device and never leave it, and the app has no account, analytics, advertising or tracking. This website uses Google Analytics only if you agree to it.

What the app does with your information

To find duplicates and clutter, Shiny reads the photos, videos and contacts you give it access to, and the files in an iCloud Drive or iPhone folder you choose. All of this happens on your device. Shiny has no servers, and it doesn't send your photos, videos, files, contacts, or anything about them, to us or to anyone else.

Shiny keeps these on your device only:

  • analysis results that make the next scan faster, such as an image fingerprint, sharpness score and file size for each photo and video;
  • your review choices, such as groups you marked as not duplicates;
  • a reference to the folder you chose, so Shiny can open it again;
  • a backup of the contacts it changes, so you can restore them;
  • how many free cleanups you've used today.

They're removed when you delete the app. Your device's own backups (iCloud or a computer) may include them, as they include any app's data.

Permissions

Shiny asks for access to Photos and to Contacts, and only reads the iCloud Drive folder you pick. You can change or remove access at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security. Without access, Shiny can't check that part of your device, and everything else keeps working.

Purchases

Shiny Pro is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment, and we don't receive your name, email address or payment details. Shiny checks on your device which purchases your Apple Account has, to know whether Pro is active. Apple's privacy policy applies to the purchase itself.

Data the app collects

None. The app has no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising and no third-party tracking code. Its App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected". Apple may share anonymous crash reports and usage statistics with developers if you've chosen to share them with app developers in your device settings; we use them only to fix problems.

This website

This website is separate from the app: nothing here is linked to the app or to what's on your device.

Google Analytics. If you choose Accept in the cookie banner, the site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read, so we can improve it. Google Analytics then sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) and sends Google the pages you view, the page you came from, your browser, device type, screen size and language, and your approximate location (city or country). Google Analytics doesn't log or store IP addresses. We don't use its advertising features or Google signals, and we don't combine this data with anything else. It's kept for 2 months, then deleted. Google acts as our processor and may process the data outside the EU, including in the United States, under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. See Google's privacy policy.

Our legal basis is your consent. Nothing from Google loads until you accept, and if you decline, the site works the same. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page; declining also deletes the cookies. The site remembers your choice in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie.

Hosting. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses and technical request data to deliver the pages and protect the site from abuse. Cloudflare doesn't share this with us in a way that identifies you.

Email. If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply, and delete them when they're no longer needed.

Children

Shiny is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data from the app, there's nothing for us to access, correct or delete. Website analytics are tied to a random ID in your browser's cookie, not to your name, so we usually can't find your data in them; you can withdraw consent at any time with Cookie settings, which deletes that ID. If you've emailed us, you can ask us to see or delete that correspondence. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If a change ever means Shiny collects data, the App Store privacy label will change too, before the app update that does it.

Simple. Private. Free to scan.
